Meet Candi Guzman, Senior Rep
I just recently met Candi and I have to say that she is stunning!! She is a rising Senior at Arcadia High School. She is outgoing, fun and smiles all the time!! She will be equipped with info cards very soon about Carla Petrillo Photography and Senior Portrait package prices.

{What Is Custom Photography}
The photographic art you choose to place on your wall is ultimately the result of the vision of the photographer. This vision, coupled with what you wear to your session, the environment, the lighting, even the mood the subjects are in at the time of photographing creates the work that you will want to proudly display on your walls forevermore.
Your first step in the process is more about determining who you are, who your family is and then seeking a photographer that reflects your style. For instance let’s say your family is extremely outdoorsy and loves playing on the beach. You start determining what style you like, browse through photography website portfolios and determine if any of the styles exhibited there would be a good fit with your life and family style. You have already determined that you should probably seek out a beach type photographer (that is if you live near a beach) and then begin narrowing the field down a bit.
Finally after a bit of internet research, you have narrowed it down to two photographers who do what seems like solid work, the sort of outdoor beach look you desire. It is now time to ask yourself: Do you like photographer A’s style over photographer B’s style? Is it because the people in the images of A’s style are having a great time and it seems very caught up in the moment vs. B photographer more posed, looking in the camera images? If this is a case, you probably like LIFESTYLE photography or perhaps even take it a step further and define your desired style as a PHOTO JOURNALISTIC photography style. The photographer you probably should choose is photographer A because their style is very similar to the style you desire.
What custom photography ultimately is all about is choice and experience. Custom photography is about finding someone who will photograph your family, give you devoted 1:1 attention without worry of who is next ‘in line’ or the feeling of a crowded portrait studio.
- A custom photographer will typically show you a fairly extensive gallery culled to only show the good images that meet the photographers’ creative sensibilities.
- Often the images are fully edited images-color corrected with blemishes and undereye circles removed.
- Custom photographers are also known as boutique studios, offering a range of products and unparalleled service. Think Lexus vs. Hyundai, think Nordstrom vs. WalMart.
A custom photography experience should have you, the client and your experience in mind.

{Beach Photography, Information and Tips for your session}
How much time should I plan on spending at my Session?
Please allow at least 1 hour to 2 hours for your session.
What time of day can I schedule my session?
For afternoon sessions, your photo session should start no sooner than 5:00 pm and no later than 6:00pm during the summer season. Photos can be captured up until around 8:00 pm. For early morning sessions your session should start no earlier than 6:30 am and no later than 7:00am. Photos can be captured up until 9:00am.
What should I and shouldn’t I wear?
There are many options for your shoot. It really depends on what your style is and what you are trying to “preserve”. You may want to dress as if you were going to the beach, in your swimsuits. You can dress in casual uniformity.
1. Think outside of the box when it comes to your clothing. In my personal opinion, the White tops and Khaki bottoms have “been done” a million times! Try a combo of solid colors for everyone’s tops like, black on Dad, white on Mom, blue on child, if you have more people in this session, throw in a couple of bright colors with this combo like, yellow and/or hot pink. Avoid stripes and shirts with printed words. Patterns are fine; just make sure it’s not too busy.
2. White (tennis) shoes and socks should be avoided. Try other alternative foot wear such as sandals, flip flops or even bare feet.
What else can I do to make my family’s photo session its best?
1. If you have children, their toys make great props. A beach ball, colorful snorkels, buckets, kites etc. The family beach umbrella can add interest too. So bring them along.
2. For a more natural appearance, avoid having haircuts/color the week prior to your session.
3. Colorful accessories can add interest to your photos. Try to incorporate one or more of the following in your photo session. For young girls, a hair band with a flower. Kids, funky colored goulashes. And for girls, scarves can be tied around the waist as a belt.
4. Ladies/girls should avoid using dark-colored lipstick, but I strongly recommend applying lip gloss. Flesh-tone colored lip gloss will also do.

{Newborn Shoot}
Today was my first official newborn photography shoot! Wheewww...it's so awesome to be around a new baby......so tiny and totally dependent! I spent about three hours with Austin today and I got a few good pics. I just know he's going to be a photographer, he wouldn't even nap cause he was keeping his eye on the camera! Mom and I decided that we would take another shot at it in a few days. Here are some of the pics I got.

{Props}
Props are often used in portrait photography to enhance or literally "prop up" the subject. Babies and children come to mind when thinking of props. In today's photography world, there hasn't been much left unturned when it comes to the kinds of things used for props. For me personally, I'm loving the whole "prop" thing!
As I have mentioned before, I have two boys, and while shopping for them has been a pretty thoughtless process, I've often caught myself drifting over to the girls clothing department thinking to myself how beautiful that dress would look on my little girl...... IF I had one! So luckily I need props for my new business, flowers and bows and pink things and all things sweet!
I hope you continue to follow this journey with me. I also hope it will inspire you to JUST DO IT!!!!! God Bless

{Bumps & Bruises}
This blog is all about my journey in setting up a photography business. I want to be as candid as I can and tell you like it is.....so let me update you on what's been going on.
I had an amazing time Saturday on a shoot with a graduating senior who will soon be entering the US Air Force. Check him out under the {Seniors} category!
After accumulating almost 200 people on my Facebook Photography Page, I had to shut it down..........bummer!! To make a long story short, shortly after creating the page I received an e-mail from what I thought was Facebook (should have know better cause it was in the Junk folder!! uhgg!!). I clicked on the link in the email to finalize the steps of my new page. The next thing I knew there was $50.00 being debited from my Visa Check Card.............EVERY DAY!!!! That link in the email gave someone access to my Facebook Credits account which contained my Debit Card#. I had to block my card.....permanently and fill out paperwork to dispute the charges on my account!! So I had a few setbacks and disappointments this week. But God is faithful and I AM His child!!
A new Facebook page is up and the word is getting out!! YAYYY

{Changes}
If this is your second visit to my blog you may have noticed some changes. Well, o.k., a lot of changes. The past two days have been consumed with coming up with a graphic layout for my photography business. I really think I'm settled on my nameplate and colors. It "feels" good and looks fresh. Months ago I had made several .png graphic logos anticipating I would be ahead of the game when it came time to set up media outlets. It was a complete waste of time......lots of trials and some errors. It's all about getting the right look and feel. I hope you guys like it!

{First Steps}
This is my first ever blog!! I am pursuing a life-long dream of mine and this blog is the first of many steps towards my dream.
I have two children and my youngest will begin his school career this fall, which leaves me with a lot of free time. Now is the time for me to just throw all my chips in and go for it! Right now I am building my photography portfolio for my web site I plan to launch in September 2011. I want to photograph newborns, moms-to-be, graduating seniors, families, children and brides-to-be. I must admit I'm a little scared about all the new things this adventure will entail. BUT, my husband, family and friends are supportive and I have an awesome God! I hope you will follow me through this journey........the ups and the downs!
